The Misanthrope
This play seemed to be very funny to me because it makes me think back to when I was in middle school. The play reminded me of when I was young and girls were talking bad about girls and other dumb gossip that most people should not have ever cared about. It seemed so childish to me two guys fighting over one girl, and the girl going back and fourth with whom she wanted to be with. I really loved the part in the play where Alceste told Oronte his honest opinion about his poem and Oronte was angry with him. Oronte seemed so childish to me also, if you don’t want to hear anything negative about your work then why ask? When I was younger I never wanted to hear anything negative about what I did but now I don’t mind because it makes me do what I am doing better.

I think you are right Oronte is meant to be viewed as imature. But it is unclear to me whether you view Alceste as imature.Perhaps your thought it so obvious it did not need mention. There is a diffrence between productive criticism and bashing.Total praise and complete insult both do nothing to help a writer but at least the first encourages the writer to continue in their craft. I think The Misanthrope undermines all easy answers and extremes in responding to others. Note also that Alcestes would not try writing himself because he probablly wouldn't be good some might call that knowing ones's limits but I view it as faliure to challenge onself. Also I think this
scene is hilarious because of the topic of the poem.It supports your case that Oronte is imature he talks about not wanting false hope and misleading kindness from a woman yet he wants some empty politeness from those who review his work.
